Hi, My name is Robert Dadona I have been interested in pigeons from the
early age of 13. My first pigeons were a couple of Racing Homers that my Grandfather bought
me at my first Little Rhody Pigeon Show off Joe Curran in 1969. These two birds were my
beginning into the hobby of breeding and homer racing .
I was born on Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island in 1955. And I grew
up in the neighborhood of Fox Point in the east side. The first 2 years of breeding and watching
my birds fly I believe to be the learning years. Asking questions and writing down anything that
I can use to better understand how to breed great birds rather than good ones. Asking
what makes a good breeder or great racing homer and how to watch your birds when hand
feeding and when their flying. Keeping your coop clean I felt was one of the most important
things to do if you wanted to have healthy birds. Also buy the best feed you can buy and inspect
it to be dry and clean. Also learning how and when to mix feed when the season change.
Always keep up on shots and medication. Sick birds should be placed in a separate pen away
from your main population so not to contaminate your coop. I would clean all the watering
pans and change the water twice every day, and ventilation in my coop was a must. But the
most important advice I received was from my Grandfather Joseph Costa who breed some of
the best Baldhead Tumblers in the United States was to buy great birds and you breed great
birds.
Some of the Old Time Flyers that I remember were Mickey Gama,Tony Melucci,
Tony Rodriques (aliasTonka), Manny Pontas, Eddie and David Araujo, Bob Mink, Dave Lema,
the Lopes Brothers, the Gomes Brothers and so many others.
